„The best 80s analogue synth pop album that was never released—here come BLIPBLOP!“
BLIPBLOP was formed in Sweden in 1984 by Pål Roos and Roger Wennerland with a clear vision of creating pure electronic pop with energy, melodies, and Swedish lyrics proudly sung in their southern Swedish accent. The band name was given to them by hecklers: “You don’t play real music – it’s just some kind of weird blip-blop.” The band embraced the term and wore it as a badge of honor.
Influenced by the likes of early Depeche Mode, John Foxx, Kraftwerk, Rational Youth, Telex, The Human League, Yazoo, and Yellow Magic Orchestra, they crafted numerous upbeat and catchy analogue electropop songs using an array of classic synthesizers, drum machines and vocoders like – amongst others – Korg VC-10, Logan String Melody II, Roland Juno-60, RS-09, SH-09, SH-101, TR-606, TR-808, Moog Little Phatty, Minimoog, Sequential Circuits Pro-One, Yamaha CS-5 and lots of synthetic percussion, sample and holds, filter sweeps, and, of course, blipping‘ and bloppin‘.
The compilation is comprised of the majority of their output from 1984 to 2017, a total of 24 tracks including the ’Varuhus’ digital single (2017), the albums ’Noll Fyra Arton’ (2012) and ’Blipblop’ (2012, material from 1984-1987), as well as a 2012 remake of ’Hemlighet’ plus previously unreleased studio versions of ’Nattens sista tåg’ and ’Hjältar’ from 1986. Pure analogue synth pop galore!
