Der US-Darkwave-Underground brodelt und wie gewohnt, ist Young & Cold Records immer vorne dabei, wenn es darum geht, neue Bands zu entdecken und zu fördern. Mit dem Duo DEEP DOWN WISE aus Florida hat das Label wieder einmal einen viel versprechenden Act am Start.

Auf dem unbetitelten Debütalbum werden die bisherigen Digital-only Songs und neue Tracks erstmals einer breiteren Hörerschaft in Europa vorgestellt und man kann sicher davon ausgehen, das einige Songs bald in den Clubs für Bewegung auf den Tanzflächen sorgen werden. Die Mischung aus Darkwave, Synthwave und Minimal-Electro geht sofort ins Ohr und bleibt dort spätestens wenn der Gesang einsetzt. Die Einflüsse und Reminiszenzen sind vielfältig, so fühlt man sich beim Opener „Ambers“ direkt an Hante erinnert, bei „After Light“ fällt einem Clan Of Xymox ein. „Howling“ ist finsterer Electro mit einigen schrägen Sounds und „Reflection“ oder „Feeling Inside“ erinnern an den Future Pop der frühen 2000er Jahre. Bei allenVergleichen, die man anstellen kann, sind DEEP DOWN WISE aber weit entfernt davon, einfach nur bereits Bekanntes nachzumachen. Inspiration ist nicht immer gleich Kopie und die Amerikaner machen aus allem, was die elektronische Musik seit den 80er Jahren hervorgebracht hat, ihr eigenes Ding.

Dabei ist von atmosphärischen Klangbildern über dunkle Tanzflächen-Rhythmen bis hin zu einschmeichelndem Electro-Pop alles mögliche dabei. DEEP DOWN WISE ist eine Band, die im besten Sinne irgendwann einfach zuhause angefangen hat, Musik zu machen und dabei eine Entwicklung genommen hat, die mit der Album-Veröffentlichung eine Bestandsaufnahme des bisherigen Weges präsentiert und zeigt, dass man da in Zukunft sicher noch so einiges erwarten darf.

Anspieltipps (neben „Ambers“ und „After Light“): „Out Of Sight“ und das minimalistische „Fallen Blossoms“.

The US Darkwave underground is seething and as usual, Young & Cold Records is always at the forefront when it comes to discovering and promoting new bands. With the duo DEEP DOWN WISE from Florida, the label once again has a promising act at the start.

On the untitled debut album, the previous digital-only songs and new tracks are presented to a wider audience in Europe for the first time and for sure, some songs will soon fill the dancefloors in the clubs. The mixture of Darkwave, Synthwave and Minimal-Synthpop catches the listeners at once and won’t leave their ears again when the vocals start. The influences are many-sided, so the opener “Ambers” reminds of Hante, while “After Light” has a lot of Clan Of Xymox. “Howling” is Dark Electro with some weird sounds and “Reflection” or “Feeling Inside” are reminiscent of the Future-Pop of the early 2000s. With all the comparisons that can be made, DEEP DOWN WISE are far from simply imitating what is already known. Inspiration doesn’t always mean copying. The Americans are making their own thing out of everything Electronic music has spawned since the 1980s.

There is everything from atmospheric soundscapes and dark dancefloor rhythms to catchy Electro-Pop. DEEP DOWN WISE is a band that, in the best sense of the word, just started making music at home at some point and has taken on a development that presents an inventory of the path so far with the album release and shows that there is definitely still a lot to expect in the future.
