Drei Jahre nach dem Debütalbum „Todo El Caos Habita Aqui“ von 2018 legte das chilenische Duo DIAVOL STRÂIN zunächst als Eigenveröffentlichung den Nachfolger „Elegia Del Olvido/Elegia Del Horror“ vor, der jetzt erstmals auf Vinyl bei Young & Cold Records erscheint. Wie nicht anders zu erwarten, wird auch diesmal wieder Old-School-Gothrock (süd-) amerikanischer Prägung geboten.

Der Sound ist völlig unbeeinflusst von Metal oder allzu viel Electro, sondern wird durch treibende Drumcomputer-Rhythmen, fetten Bass und melancholisch-verzweifelten Gesang bestimmt. Prägend sind jedoch vor allem die schneidenden Gitarren, die man in der Art sonst hauptsächlich von Mephisto Walz oder Screams For Tina kennt. Die Synthies stehen nie im Vordergrund, sondern sorgen nur für zusätzliche Atmopsphäre und ein volleres Klangbild. Und wie schon bei anderen Bands macht die spanische Sprache im Gesang den Unterschied und gibt der Musik einen ganz eigenen Sound. So kennt man den Goth-/Deathrock der 80er und 90er Jahre.

Fans des US-Deathrocks werden ihre Freude an Tracks wie „Ruinas“ und „Al Ansia“ haben, vor allem letztgenannter Song wäre in den frühen 90ern vermutlich ein Clubhit geworden. Das Zeug dazu hätte auf heutigen Gothic-Parties „Destino Destrucción“, während „Herz Der Niemand“ und „Uroboros“ auch Darkwave-Freunde glücklich machen werden.

Nur noch selten hört man heutzutage solch reine Goh-/Deathrock-Platten. DIAVOL STRÂIN ist die direkte Verbindung von Kaelan Mikla (mit Gitarren) zu Mephisto Walz…ein Sound, der süchtig macht und einem Genre neue Impulse gibt, das derzeit sonst noch unter dem Underground sein Dasein fristet. Die vielleicht beste Gothrock-Band aus Südamerika seit den Argentiniern Crucifix Nocturnal Christians.

Three years after their debut album “Todo El Caos Habita Aqui” from 2018, the Chilean duo DIAVOL STRÂIN released the follow-up “Elegia Del Olvido/Elegia Del Horror” on their own, which is now being re-released for the first time on vinyl by Young & Cold Records. As to be expected, old school Gothrock in a (South-) American way is on offer again this time.

The sound is completely unaffected by Metal or too much Electro, but is determined by driving drum machine rhythms, fat bass and melancholic to desperate vocals. However, the screeching guitars, which are otherwise mainly known from Mephisto Walz or Screams For Tina, are formative. The synths are never in the foreground, they only provide additional atmosphere and a fuller sound. And as with other bands, the Spanish language makes the difference in the singing and gives the sound its very own atmosphere. That’s how we know the Goth-/Deathrock of the 80s and 90s.

Fans of US Deathrock will enjoy tracks like “Ruinas” and “Al Ansia”, especially the latter song would probably have become a club hit in the early 90s. “Destino Destrucción” could be the same on today’s Gothic parties, while “Herz Der Niemand” and „Uroboros“ will also make Darkwave friends happy.
