TWINGS around singer Charlie Hughes are a completely new band from Baltimore/USA. As if out of nowhere – there aren’t even any individual song releases on Bandcamp or similar – the group has released its mature debut album „There´s A Dark Sky“ on YOUNG & COLD RECORDS and is sure to make an immediate impression on the scene.

The sound is once again heavily influenced by the sound of the 80s, somewhere between New Wave, New Romantic and Synthpop. Imagine a collaboration of Clan Of Xymox, Duran Duran and Talk Talk. The vocals sometimes let one think of Traitrs.

If „The Call“ had been released in 1984, it would certainly have been a massive Top 30 hit, as would „Night Club“, which moves quite far away from the Wave-sound. Darker and more experimental is „An Invitation“, which would have been a potential long-running hit on US College Radio back then, while „Springtide“ is a new favourite song for all old-school Wave fans.

A really surprising album that seems to have fallen out of time a little, but still seems contemporary and a contrast to the countless cool and gloomy Darkwave/Postpunk acts of recent years. Because „There´s A Dark Sky“ is not as dark as the cover and the album title. A real insider tip! Still…
