SOCIAL STATION kommen von der US-Ostküste. Das Duo existiert schon einige Jahre und legt nach dem 2016er Debütalbum „Our Pleasure Of Solitude“ – eine komplette Eigenproduktion – und dem 2020 bei YOUNG & COLD RECORDS erschienenem „Social Station“ nun das dritte Album „In The Fallout“ vor.

Obwohl der Musikstil sich vom Debüt bis heute nicht grundsätzlich geändert hat, ist die Entwicklung doch bemerkenswert. Die Kompositionen und vor allem die Produktion haben deutlich an Reife dazugewonnen, so dass sich SOCIAL STATION inzwischen nicht mehr vor musikalisch verwandten Gruppen im Darkwave-Bereich verstecken müssen. Es wurden neue Einflüsse hinzugenommen, aber letztlich werden die meist mittelschnellen Songs – die durchaus auch Potenzial für die Tanzflächen der Clubs haben – weiterhin von schön flächigen Synthesizer-Sounds und der wunderbar wavigen Gitarre geprägt, ergänzt durch den emotionalen Gesang.

Das ist klassischer Darkwave, der stark aus den 80er Jahren zehrt, aber auch die Lektionen aus den 90er Jahren verinnerlicht hat. Der Sound ist hier und da etwas dunkler geworden, ohne aber gleich in die Gothic-Schublade zu greifen. Man kann SOCIAL STATION vielleicht als „Missing Link“ zwischen Clan Of Xymox und den Labelkollegen Twin Tribes beschreiben, aber es kommen einem auch noch viele andere alte und aktuelle Bands in den Sinn, von The Essence und For Against bis Hapax, Traitrs und Creux Lies.

„All Of A Sudden (Dear Lord)“ verbindet den Postpunk von The Cures „Seventeen Seconds“ grandios mit der Verspieltheit von „The Top“, „Call Me“ ist finster-eingängig wie die 90er-Jahre- Alben von The Hall Of Souls, „Secrets To be Heard“ schmeichelt sich fast unbemerkt ins Ohr und will es einfach nicht mehr verlassen. Obwohl es scheinbar einer der unspektakuläreren Songs auf „In The Fall Out“ ist, hat er absolutes Lieblingslied-Potenzial. „Goodbye Tonight“ hingegen dürfte schon bald vor allem live ein Fan-Favorit werden.

SOCIAL STATION bieten mit „In The Fallout“ ihr bisher reifstes Album, das mit seiner eingängigen Melancholie geradezu nach einer baldigen Live-Umsetzung schreit.

SOCIAL STATION are from the US East Coast. The duo exists for several years and, after their 2016 debut album “Our Pleasure Of Solitude” – a complete DIY-production – and the 2020 “Social Station” released by YOUNG & COLD RECORDS, they are now presenting their third album “In The Fallout”.

Although the musical style has not changed fundamentally from the debut until today, the development is remarkable. The compositions and above all the production have taken some big steps forward,so that SOCIAL STATION don’t habe to hide from musically related groups in the Darkwave genre. New influences were added, but ultimately the mostly mid-paced songs – which also have potential for club dance floors – continue to be characterized by beautifully flat synthesizer sounds and the wonderfully New Wave-guitars, completed by the emotional vocals.

This is classic darkwave that draws heavily from the 80’s but has also learned its lessons from the 90’s. The sound has gotten a bit darker here and there, but without going straight into the Gothic-caves. SOCIAL STATION might be described as the ‘missing link’ between Clan Of Xymox and label mates Twin Tribes, but plenty of other bands, both old and new, come to mind as well, from The Essence and For Against to Hapax, Traitrs and Creux Lies .

“All Of A Sudden (Dear Lord)” connects the Postpunk of The Cure’s “Seventeen Seconds” with the easyness of “The Top”, “Call Me” is sinisterly catchy like the 90s albums by The Hall Of Souls , “Secrets To be Heard” caresses the listeners ears almost unnoticed and just doesn’t want to leave it anymore…while seemingly one of the more unspectacular songs on “In The Fall Out,” it has absolute favorite song potential. “Goodbye Tonight”, on the other hand, should soon become a fan-darling, especially live.
